Alvin M. Pearlman, CPA  (Principal) 

Al Pearlman has expertise in all areas of tax compliance and tax planning as well as personal financial planning.  He has extensive experience in serving individuals, corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, estates and employee benefit plans.

Al is a 1967 graduate of Western Reserve University and a 1970 graduate of the University of Cincinnati Law School.  Al has been a certified public accountant since 1973.  Professional organizations to which Al belongs are the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Taxation Division of that organization, and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.  He is a past chairman of the Tax Committee of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.  He has served as a member of the Individual Taxation Committee of the Tax Division of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, whose mission is to formulate technical and policy recommendations to submit to Congress, the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service.  Al is on the Manuscript Review Board of the "Ohio CPA Journal" and has frequently spoken to various local and national organizations regarding tax matters.

 


Dave Smith, CPA  (Principal)

Dave Smith is involved in all aspects of services to small businesses, heads up the firms accounting and auditing practice, and is in charge of the firms quality control.  As a CPA and business advisor, Dave serves individuals and businesses in various industries.

Dave is a 1978 graduate of Muskingum College and has been a certified public accountant since 1980.  Prior to joining  Burkhardt & Co. in 1994, Dave was a senior manager with KPMG.  He has participated in volunteer work with the United Way, College fund drives, the Chamber of Commerce, as well as coaching girls softball and basketball.  Dave is a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants and  the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

 


Samuel A. Frankel, CPA

Sam Frankel is associated with Burkhardt & Co.  As a CPA and business advisor, Sam specializes in helping small and midsize organizations to continually improve and succeed.  With over 30 years of experience, Sam has helped hundreds of businesses to consistently make sound business decisions by personally sharing his valuable knowledge, insights and business advice.

Sam takes a very personal  and hands-on approach to providing value-added solutions and recommendations to his clients in the following areas:  taxes, accounting, finance, computer systems, profit enhancement, and general business planning.  In addition to his strategic planning skill and insights, Sam  also helps companies to enhance corporate performance through the proper use of technology.  His clients consist of individuals, professional practices, and corporations representing multiple industries.  Whether helping clients to write strategic business plans, implement computer solutions or enhance bottom line results, he judges his service by one critical benchmark - the success of his clients.

Prior to joining Burkhardt & Co., Sam was a partner with a regional accounting firm, an international accounting firm for 17 years, and was also the CFO of a large communications company.  Consequently, he understands client service from both perspectives and strives for practical solutions and tangible results when serving his clients.  

Sam graduated from Miami University (Oxford, OH) with a degree in  business administration with a concentration in accounting.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.  Sam has also written for the Journal of Accountancy and the Journal of Taxation and has been a speaker to local business and civil groups on the topics of tax planning, computer systems, profit enhancement, and business planning.
